Music Assocation

The aim of the WMA is for families and friends of Wilkins PS to promote music within the school.  In addition, the Association assists the school’s music teachers, Mr Kurt Olofsson and Ms Lucy Armstrong, with planning events such as raising funds to buy new instruments for the school, which can then be hired out to students at a reduced rate.

What’s happening in 2009?

Mr Kurt Olofsson and Ms Lucy Armstrong are the school’s music teachers.  They each dedicate two full days/week.  Mr Olofsson is also a classroom teacher on the other days.  They are both very enthusiastic and have high aspirations for Wilkins PS.  The music program for 2009 includes:

  • Choral Program – including a Junior Choir,  Senior Choir and whole-school singing
  • Band Program – including a Concert Band and Training Band
  • Recorder Program  – which includes a Recorder Ensemble (for experienced players) as well as the recorder classes offered to all children in Years 2 and 3
  • String Program – a String Ensemble (for experienced players) and Beginner Strings (lead by Miss Alex Pym)
  • Percussion classes – offered to all Year 1 students
  • Singing with Kindergarten classes.
  • Wilkins PS also has private tutors that come to the school to teach.  Instruments can also be hired from the School on a term-by-term basis.

How can you help?

The Association is looking for assistance in 2009 from any parents, carers, friends, and community members who have an interest in promoting music at Wilkins.  You don’t need a background in music; just a wish to assist the School in realising its goals to promote music.

Meetings

The WMA meets at 6.45pm on the second Thursday of each month in the Wilkins Staff Room.  Enter by the office on Park Road.
