Term 3

Dear Parents and Carers,

Welcome back to a new semester. We hope that you and the children are all refreshed and ready for everything we have organised for another busy term. We would very much appreciate your efforts in ensuring your child arrives at school on time, so as not to miss out – try and keep to a routine, including early nights. Also, if your child is sick, it is important that they stay away until they are fully recovered.
 

Head lice checks need to be ongoing, even during winter. A nit comb, available at chemists, is a good preventative measure. One easy method to use is to wash and condition your child’s hair, blow dry and then comb through using the nit comb. 
  
This term Kindergarten (excluding K/1C) will be set a different style of homework, to start in Week 2. The new homework focuses on the reading and writing of common sight words. There will be two sheets – one back to back activity sheet that pastes into the homework books as before, and a second one that builds into a sight word library for the children to keep and use at home. Some games that you can play with your children using this word library include snap, bingo, writing the words in a sentence, finding rhyming words and clapping out syllables and so on. We feel it will make a valuable new tool.

Don’t forget the library bags!

This term the units of work that we will be studying with the children are Places We Know for HSIE and Hot And Cold for Science and Technology. Later in the term we are planning a trip to Marrickville Library with the children, including a picnic in the park on the way back. Other upcoming events for Term 3 include: 

• Parent/Teacher interviews in Week 3.
• Week 5 is Book Week which has events such as a puppet show, a Book Fair and a Book character dress up and parade, and also includes an author talk in Week 4.
• K/1C will be visiting the Australian Museum in Week 5.
• Kindergarten 2010 Information Night -
8 September 2009, 5.30 – 6.30pm
